A Major Investment in Precision, Efficiency and Capacity

At MPL Fabrications, we continue to invest heavily in advanced sheet metal fabrication machinery to support our customers and strengthen our in-house capabilities. At the start of 2026, we proudly introduced our Bodor I7 fibre laser cutting machine which is the fourth major machinery investment in just four years.

After months of planning, installation and preparation, the Bodor I7 is now fully operational at our Coventry facility. This investment represents a significant step forward for the business, our workforce, and the customers we support across the Midlands and the UK.

Why we invested in in-house laser cutting services

Previously, certain laser-cut components were produced using trusted external partners. While effective, this approach introduced additional lead times, increased transport requirements and reduced control over scheduling.

By bringing laser cutting fully in-house, MPL Fabrications can now benefit from:

  • Faster turnaround times
  • Greater control over quality and delivery schedules
  • Increased production capacity
  • Reduced reliance on subcontractors
  • A smoother, more efficient workflow from cutting through to finished parts

For our customers, this means a more reliable, hassle-free fabrication process, with fewer handovers and improved consistency from start to finish.

Bodor I7 Laser cutting capabilities

The Bodor I7 fibre laser adds powerful, high-precision cutting capability to our existing CNC and fabrication equipment. Key specifications include:

  • Cutting bed size: 1.5m x 3m
  • Materials:
    • Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium up to 8mm
    • Up to 10mm for specific smaller-scale applications
    • Galvanised steel up to 3mm (managed safely and responsibly)

While the Bodor I7 is capable of cutting significantly thicker materials, we have optimised its use around the material ranges most commonly required by our customers. This ensures safe material handling, efficient throughput and consistently high-quality results.

Strengthening our end-to-end fabrication service

The addition of laser cutting enhances (rather than replaces) our existing services. It allows work to move seamlessly through the factory with minimal waiting and maximum efficiency.

Our full fabrication offering now includes:

  • Laser cutting
  • CNC punching
  • CNC bending / press brake work
  • MIG & TIG welding, including coded welding
  • Powder coating
  • Batch production and bespoke fabrication
  • Lift kit components and lift hoarding kit components
  • Secure on-site storage and call-off work
  • In-house delivery using MPL vehicles

By keeping more processes under one roof, we deliver tighter quality control, improved lead times and a simpler experience for our customers.

Investing in people and long-term growth

This investment reflects our long-standing commitment to our team and the future of the business. Supported in part by a local council grant, the Bodor I7 is expected to support significant growth and create new employment opportunities within the company.

As a family-run business rooted in the Midlands, MPL Fabrications continues to invest responsibly, balancing modern technology with skilled craftsmanship and hands-on service.
